A founder note · MMXXVI

A studio of one.

I’m Cam Carroll. I work on one project at a time, from a small studio in Uxbridge, Massachusetts. Every site I ship is hand-coded, end to end.

Currently designing the inaugural Sierra Auto Group launch — Spring MMXXVI.

I.

Origin

Why a studio, and why one client at a time.

I started Cam Carroll Studio in MMXXVI because every great site I’ve admired — Apple’s product pages, Stripe’s engineering polish, the editorial restraint at Pentagram — was built by a small group of people who refused to assemble. The work is hand-written, not configured. Every line of HTML, every easing curve, every kerning decision is mine. I take on two clients a quarter so the work doesn’t get diluted by attention scarcity. The process takes longer; the result lasts longer.

Hand-coded means hand-considered.
A working principle.
II.

Belief

A website is a signature, not a brochure.

The site you ship is the way your business introduces itself for the next five years. I believe that introduction deserves the same care a luxury brand puts into a flagship store opening — the same care a film studio puts into a title sequence. I don’t use templates, page-builders, or AI-scaffolded shortcuts. The trade is honest: more time and money up front, in exchange for a result you can defend in front of any audience for a decade. The trends will change. The work won’t look dated.

The brief is the contract. The site is the receipt.
On process.

Standard

How I work, in one paragraph.

One conversation to start — 45 minutes, no commitment. Then a written brief, a fixed scope, a fixed quote, a start date. Six weeks of hand-coded build with a live progress link every Friday. A 30-day refinement window after launch built in. Every site shipped tested across ten viewports, Lighthouse 95+ on every score, WebP imagery, JSON-LD schema, hand-written legal pages. I deploy your site, configure your domain, set up your Google Workspace inbox, and train you on the contact form. Then I disappear — until you need me again.

Selected influences

The lineage the work descends from.

  • Apple Cupertino · Typography & restraint
  • Pentagram London · Editorial discipline
  • Stripe San Francisco · Engineering polish
  • Lusion Sydney · WebGL craft
  • Linear San Francisco · Micro-interactions
  • Locomotive Montréal · Cinematic case studies

What I work on.

  • Luxury exotic and automotive — Sierra Auto Group as the inaugural case
  • Hospitality · hotels, member clubs, restaurants
  • Real estate · brokerages, developments, listing presentations
  • Wellness · spas, retreats, considered fitness brands
  • Retail · small-batch, owner-led, the kind of brand a customer chooses on purpose
  • Legal, financial, professional services · firms whose work depends on perception of seriousness

What I don’t.

  • Templates, page-builders, or any drag-and-drop platform
  • AI-scaffolded sites where the shortcuts are visible to clients
  • Pre-existing rescue jobs — I work on new builds, not repairs
  • SEO content farms, link-building, growth-hacking play
  • Cryptocurrency, gambling, or anything where the business model is the trick
  • Rush jobs that compress the eight-week timeline — care doesn’t scale down

In closing

Cam Carroll.
